Interculturality at the heart of European recruitment: A look back at my conference with France Travail and EURES

Charlotte Courtois gives a lecture for the EURES network

I'm back from a trip to Paris, tired but full of energy!

What a pleasure it was to host a conference for France Travail and its EURES network advisors.

A real pleasure... but also a real challenge!

It might seem redundant to explain the challenges of interculturality to professionals working in the heart of different European cultures on a daily basis.

🇪🇺 In fact, EURES advisors from France Travail and its partners assist candidates and companies in their recruitment throughout Europe. In other words, interculturality is an integral part of their daily work.

🔎 So this conference was an opportunity to take a fresh look, to cross theory and practice, to break out of conventional patterns and stimulate thought (and inspiration!). Interculture is a living discipline, where there's always something to learn.

All too often, interculturality boils down to comparing cultures. Yet the key lies elsewhere:
👉 It's all about developing genuine intercultural skills.

We explored (and experimented with!) key intercultural skills: decentralization, curiosity, vulnerability. The exchange was rich and stimulating.

Special mention should be made of the question-and-answer session, which quickly turned into an amusing sharing of cross-cultural anecdotes. A real pleasure to hear these inspiring testimonials.

Many thanks to Nicolas Simon, Sarah Canes and Matthieu Delattre for their confidence, and of course to all the EURES advisers for their enthusiasm and commitment.
